High End Games on Low End PC ?

Yes it is true ! Games are made on PC and they must be playable on not-very-up-to-date PC. I asked at a gaming forum about a problem i had in order to play Star wars Force Unleashed, and the smart ass replied that i will never gonna play any games if i don't buy the rig from this century. Well Sir, I must differ ! I know there comes a limit where you have no choice but to upgrade, and believe i still haven't reached that limit. That is the advantage of PC over console, you can customize your game performance (increase and decrease). I gonna post some major games i have played on my old rig, then i am going to post my PC specs.
The Hyperlink takes you to the wiki page or any other page which shows the minimum requirement.
Also win shows that i have to run in window mode, and con shows that it needs changes in config

Crysis [i know these games are old but i just cant miss it]

Gears of War

 Fifa 10

PES 2010

Crysis Warhead

Prototype

Assasin's Creed

H.A.W.X

Far Cry 2

Dead Space

section 8 [window]

Guitar Hero World Tour [Config file had to change resolution and disable physics]

Resident Evil 5

Modern Warfare 2

Wolfenstien

Mass Effect [Window mode, detail level high]

Blacksite Area 51

And Finally Star Wars Force Unleashed The Sith Edition

Other games included Rainbow six, Stranglehold and games that i did not liked. However I was unable to run saboteur on XP, but i will get to that later. Here are my specs:

OS Name    Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
System Manufacturer    Dell Inc.
System Model    OptiPlex GX280
System Type    X86-based PC
Processor    Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz, 3192 Mhz, 1 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    2.00 GB
Total Physical Memory    2.00 GB

Name    ASUS EAH3450 Series
Adapter RAM    1024 MB
Resolution    1280 x 1024 x 60 hertz

And It does Supports Dx11.

The Force Unleashed, Blacksite and Mass effect were not playable with my specs. But i was surprised when I upgraded to Windows 7. Vista is memory hogging OS, but 7 is not. 7 is very efficient and with dx11 support give added advantage. So before you give up on good game and settle for console! try some of these tricks:

  • update drivers, install catalyst and nvidia physx tools.
  • try to keep C: as much free as possible, also set your virtual memory in a drive that has free space. General rule of thumb is that Virtual memory should be twice your physical memory.
  • If you cannot get your game to work that is black screen try lowering the resolution and running in window mode [i recommend 3d analyzer to force window mode] window mode can be change via config.ini file or similar found in either the game folder or documents and setting folder.
  •  If game lags, try setting your 3d options to performance rather than quality [as in catalyst]

  • Install latest patch for game bugs, and if you cannot start the game there is a possibility that you are using a bad crack

  • In config files disable post processing, cloth rendering, dynamic shadows and motion blur - there may be more but you have compromise with quality gaming and with able to play !haha! no kidding try experimenting with enabling and disable and see where you get to enjoy the game and play as well. [Crysis without post processing is cruel]

  • If get an error that d3d file or dx file not found it is because your directx version is not supported, you need to update it.
If none of that helps try to search in forums , other than that try another game.

Mass Effect:
In windows 7, the fullscreen gives blackscreen, but in windowed mode it runs like a charm

Star Wars Force Unleashed:
This is very very buggy, and requires high specs, 25 GB disk space and a lot of crashing. But i finally got 40 - 50 fps very easily !!! Here is what you should do = go to documents and setting / username / appdata / local / config.xml , open it with wordpad, change the resolution to 640 x 480, low detail 1, cloth level 0
when in game change the costume to luke skywalker or any character with no dangling clothes, also decrease your fx and music volumes. the game now only lags when its memory leaks [which is coding fault] and can be fixed by patching it 1.1

Happy Gamings !!!
